Fazer is a Nomad in the cyberpunk world that comes from the RPG Cyberpunk 2020 and gets us into Week 4 of the #CharacterCreationChallenge.
Born of a powerful crime family, Fazer grew up knowing nothing about them. For some unknown reason, they gave him up and he was raised by a nomadic band of drag racers and chem haulers, flitting from city to city and fending off the marauders of the wastelands that covered the tweenlands.
A romantic, Fazer easily succumbs to the will of anyone with a pretty face or hot cyber sculpts. To date, all such dalliances have come to sadness, and even set him at odds with certain government agents.
That said, he’s well-respected in his nomad family, and they always have his back should trouble show up.
Fazer has a good intuitive sense for danger – always keeping his eyes peeled for anything that could threaten his gang – and isn’t bad in a fight. Which is good, because he gets into plenty when he’s hot for some girl with slick software or well-augmented hardware.
One of the days he’ll find the one and society can eff off.

Cyberpunk 2020
This RPG is NOT for the faint of heart.
Character creation is reasonably simple, with many random tables and flows that can give you a unique character without much trouble. And I really liked letting the dice decide who this guy was.
As it turned out, I rolled through all the life experience bits before going back and doing my role and statistics. It just felt like the better build path. I wouldn’t be sad if this became the default flow. Granted, there seem to be a few versions of this game, so maybe the creation process has changed in those.
But there are a massive ton of options that suggest to me that game play will be pretty complex. So many skills, so many die rolls. And, of course, the lingo is so precious that it will take a long time to get a grasp on the world.
And, for me, the world doesn’t particularly intrigue me. I mentioned in previous builds that cyberpunk wasn’t really my thing. That still goes.
But the build process was very nice – it reminded me of the life path cycle I just ran in Twilight: 2000. I could study the crap out of the rules to try and come up with an optimized character, but having an excellent random character generator is even better for me. It doesn’t hurt that my dice roller gave me pretty good numbers, but I’d be happy with mediocre nums if it’s a fin build and the “reroll anything 2 or 1” ensure no fatal flaws.
If the cyberpunk genre is your thing, and you love a ton of options and years worth of supporting content, check out Cyberpunk 2020 and see if it works for you.
